Today’s letter
The weekend alarm that may matter more than eight hours of sleep
The bedroom is dark because the curtains cost eighty dollars and the reviews said they would change her life. Her phone is face down on the nightstand, set to Do Not Disturb. It is Sunday morning and the alarm is off because this is supposed to be the one day she gets to rest.
By Monday at eleven she is staring at a screen with nothing going in. She slept nine hours over the weekend, maybe ten, and she woke up feeling like she crossed a time zone. Every post she scrolled said to get more sleep, buy the weighted blanket, try the supplement… nobody mentioned keeping the same schedule.
“Why am I still this tired?”
She did everything the articles recommended. Blackout curtains, a sleep app on her phone, a weighted blanket her sister gave her for Christmas. She was organized about it, disciplined about it. The one fight she kept losing was Monday morning.
Every article said the same thing: get eight hours. She did. And she gave herself the weekends to sleep in because she figured she had earned it. When Monday hit like a wall she blamed herself for being lazy, for not being a morning person, for needing more rest than everyone else seemed to need.
Here’s what gets me.
She was never broken. The schedule was.

Do This 30-Second Cherry Trick For Deep, Restful Sleep Every Night

I couldn’t believe this is 10 TIMES more effective than melatonin pills…

According to a top sleep expert from the University of Washington…

This 30-second cherry trick helps you enjoy deep, restorative sleep every night.

Studies show it releases a powerful “sleep-regulating” hormone, which helps you:

✅ Fall asleep faster AND stay asleep

✅ Increases your total sleep time by 84 minutes (science confirms that’s 10X better than melatonin!)

✅ RESET your sleep-wake cycle

✅ Wake up feeling refreshed and energetic

It’s working like crazy for 36,498 people…

Susan R., from Denver, said: “I finally started sleeping straight through. No more tossing and turning, no more groggy mornings. For the first time in years, I wake up feeling truly rested."

Can you imagine how your nights would change once you start doing this simple cherry trick every night?

>>> Do This 30-Second Cherry Trick For Deep, Restful Sleep Every Night!

Let me show you how I know. Not with my opinion, but with a study.
Researchers strapped a small monitor to the wrists of 51,562 adults and recorded when they fell asleep and when they woke up, every night, for about a week. From those numbers they measured one thing: how much each person’s sleep schedule drifted between the workweek and the weekend. The researchers called that gap social jet lag.
Then they followed those same people for about eight years, tracking new cases of heart disease, heart attacks, heart failure, and stroke. In all, 3,853 cardiovascular events.
What they found
Prospective study of 51,562 adults, 2026. Kumar and Krishnamurthy, Journal of Internal Medicine.
The irregular sleepers (30% higher risk)
Among the 2,025 adults whose weekend sleep timing sat two or more hours off their weekday timing, in either direction, that gap was linked to a 30 percent higher cardiovascular risk, at a hazard ratio of 1.30. In women on their own the numbers ran the same way without reaching the significance line.
All participants (duration alone)
For all 51,562 people in the study, sleep duration alone was not independently linked to cardiovascular risk.
How long they slept was not linked to risk on its own. When they slept was.
In other words, sleeping enough may not have been the part that mattered. Keeping the same schedule appears to be.
Her discipline had nothing to do with it. Yours doesn’t either.
So why does sleeping in on a Saturday do the same thing to your body as a flight across two time zones?
There is a cluster of cells behind your eyes called the suprachiasmatic nucleus, and it keeps time for the rest of the body: cortisol, melatonin, body temperature, the hour you start feeling drowsy. It takes its cue from when your day starts. Keep that cue steady across seven days and the rest of the system has something to line up against. Move it two hours on Saturday and Sunday and the clock is being asked to shift the way it would after a flight, which is where the name social jet lag comes from. By Monday morning your body may still be asking for sleep at the old time while the alarm is ringing at the new one.
She never stood a chance. Neither did you, I’d bet.
That’s the part no one says out loud…
Try this today
Tonight, set one alarm for the same time you wake up on a weekday. Set it for every day this week, Saturday and Sunday included. Keep it within two hours of your weekday time. When it goes off Saturday morning, get up instead of lying there and start the day the way you would on a Tuesday. If you feel tired earlier on Saturday night, let that happen: it means the clock is holding. Give it two full weekends before you decide whether it is working.
The alarm is not taking your weekend. It is giving you back your Monday.
Promise me you’ll try it today? Saying it out loud is half of what makes it stick.
I’m in. I’ll try it today →
An alarm cannot undo a real sleep disorder. The clock was designed to run on one schedule, and the alarm is what keeps it honest. If something deeper is going on, like apnea or insomnia or restless legs, that is a conversation for your doctor.
The woman with the eighty-dollar curtains did not need another supplement or another app. She needed one alarm, the same time every morning, and the knowledge that sleeping in may have been doing the opposite of what she thought.
There’s still time for you.
Because it was never about the hours…
It was never your fault.
— Cole
P.S. If you have ever turned off Saturday’s alarm because you figured you earned the sleep-in, hit reply and send the word SAME.
